Mothering Sunday – What are its origins within the church? 

Each year on the fourth Sunday of Lent, countries worldwide celebrate Mothering Sunday. This typically involves lavishing mothers with gifts and attention whilst celebrating the women who have nurtured us throughout our lives. But how many of us know its true origins? 


Confirmation services

On 12 March, Bishop Karen held a confirmation service in the West Purbeck Benefice. She spoke about how important a marker in a person's faith journey confirmation is. She said:  "I think it is more important than ever. Marking a decision individuals have taken on their faith journey, rather than an entry to Holy Communion. It's great to see so many making a decision to follow Christ." 


Take over Sunday

13 young members of St Saviours Church and St Philippe de Torteval Church on the Island of Guernsey planned the Sunday service earlier this month. They chose the hymns and readings, wrote a sketch, the prayers of intercession and the sermon on the theme of “Teamwork makes the dream work”.

Modern Slavery and Safeguarding Refugees Training Courses

The Clewer Initiative are running free online awareness raising sessions on modern slavery and safeguarding for those hosting and volunteering with refugees. These will be delivered by Becca Faal and Helen Styles (safeguarding consultants for TCI).
