On Wednesday 8 July, 150 clergy from across the diocese came together for our annual Clergy Day, hosted by Bishop Karen.
This year’s theme, Homely and Holy, brought everyone together for worship, workshops and the opportunity to spend time with colleagues, both old and new.
Following registration – and much-appreciated goody bags generously provided by Bishop Karen and the team – attendees were able to visit the marketplace, chatting with exhibitors before the day’s programme began.
The morning worship included a live poetry performance from Ruth and Nick Wells, which can be watched on our YouTube channel, alongside time for reflection, discussion and debate as clergy were invited to consider a Bible passage and share their responses, resulting in a rich variety of perspectives and insights.
After worship, a panel of DBF staff took questions, covering topics ranging from how the diocese can best support low-income parishes to clergy housing and how we can better recognise and share the extraordinary work taking place in ordinary settings across the diocese every day.
Following lunch, participants were able to choose from one of eight workshops covering a wide range of topics, including an introduction to the Nurturing Courageous Christian Leadership programme, creating spaces of belonging and radical hospitality and living wisely through the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount.
The day provided a valuable opportunity for reflection and fellowship, sharing and listening, before drawing to a close with the Eucharist.
