Tim has been Dean of Guernsey since 2015.
As Dean, Tim is the Bishop’s Commissary in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, where, as senior priest, he leads the Church in its ministry and mission, and its engagement with civic and public life, in Alderney, Guernsey and Sark. Other responsibilities include the Ecclesiastical Court (which runs the Guernsey Probate Registry), chairing the directors (governors) of Elizabeth College and serving as a director of the Guernsey Social Investment Fund. A priority is ensuring the flourishing of the Deanery of Guernsey and its parishes in their relationship with the Diocese of Salisbury and the wider Church of England.
Tim served on General Synod (one and off) between 2000 and 2021. He is a member of the Church Commissioners’ Bishoprics and Cathedrals Committee.
Tim studied Classics and Theology at Queens’ College, Cambridge before preparing for ordination at Westcott House in Cambridge. Tim served in the Diocese of Chester in parish ministry and as Bishop’s Chaplain and Diocesan Communications Officer. Moving to the Diocese of Lincoln in 1998, Tim was Vicar of Spalding, a rural dean and a member of the Chapter of Lincoln Cathedral until his appointment as Archdeacon of Lincoln in 2009.
Particular (ecclesiastical) interests include liturgy (Tim has been a trustee of the Alcuin Club since the 1980s), ecclesiastical law and church buildings. He enjoys travel and recently began to find great pleasure in taming a garden wilderness. Tim is married to Judy; they have two adult children, and are enjoying being grandparents.
