The Channel Islands

The Bishop of Salisbury has pastoral responsibility for the Islands.

However, the deaneries of Guernsey and Jersey will soon become formally attached to the Diocese of Salisbury, under the episcopal care of the Bishop of Salisbury, once legal proceedings have been finalised. This process is expected to be completed by the autumn of 2022.

When the legal process is complete, the Deans of Guernsey and Jersey will become ex-officio members of Bishop’s Senior Staff and the Bishop’s Council. The Islands will be represented at Diocesan Synod.

The Bishop, the Dean of Guernsey and Dean of Jersey will work together in a spirit of cooperation, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding.

We welcome the Islands to the Diocese of Salisbury, and look forward to developing our relationship together.

A special service will be held in Salisbury Cathedral later in 2022 to mark this new relationship.
