New Director of Education appointed

A new Diocesan Director of Education has been appointed, succeeding Canon Joy Tubbs, who is retiring.

Katie Fitzsimmons will move from the diocese of Truro, where she is Director of Education, to take up the role from September.

Katie said: “I have truly loved every moment of my time as DDE in the Diocese of Truro, working with our schools and trusts, as well as all the other key stakeholders, to enable the best possible educational experience for the children we serve, but also working with our incredible diocesan team to strengthen links with our church congregations.  I am honoured to have been given the chance to bring all I am to this new role with the Diocese of Salisbury and look forward to all it will bring in seeking to fulfil the path God has set out for me and my family.  The education team is a strong one, much valued and respected, so in taking on this leadership role I recognise the trust being placed in me by the board and by Bishop Stephen.

“I come with my husband, Chris, and our three children – we are preparing for a big change for us all.  The welcome I received over the two days of the interview process has assured me that we will all know a place of love and encouragement as we join the diocese.”

Bishop Stephen said: “Schools are at the heart of our ministry and our communities. We welcome Katie’s arrival and her commitment and passion for the flourishing of our children and young people.”

Ven Antony MacRow-Wood is chair of the Diocese of Salisbury’s Board of Education. He said: “I’m thrilled Katie is joining us as our new DDE in September. Her passion for children and young people combined with her knowledge, experience and lived faith shown through at interview and I look forward to welcoming her in role.”

The Bishop of Truro, Phililp Mountstephen, said Katie had done an “amazing job” in Truro. “She has given herself heart and soul to the life, work and mission of our Church Schools, both during and beyond the pandemic.”
