Church fetes and fundraisers have been a bedrock for churches for years. Why not get your local community involved and invite them to join you!
What makes a successful event? It might easily be summed up as this:
Invite people, bring food
For someone who has never gone to church, a fundraiser can be a good way to explore faith and find out more about it.
Food is a great ice-breaker, and no one does ‘bring and share’ better than the Church of England! Invite as many people as you can, and use leaflets, posters, social media posts, and Facebook advertising to draw people in.
If there’s a story behind your event, write a press release and send it to local newspapers.
Ask the Communications Team for advice on getting local media attention.
If you are planning an event, check out the advice from the Institute of Fundraising, and take inspiration from other churches in our diocese.
One event that we can all help make a success is the annual Ride+Stride organised by the Dorset and Wiltshire Historic Churches Trusts each September. If you take part, your church receives 50% of your fundraising, and the rest goes to DHCT or WHCT, who give it back out in grants to support building projects. It’s a win-win!
