Quinquennial Inspections are surveys carried out every five years and are an important and helpful part of planning the upkeep and regular maintenance of the church and churchyard.
Inspections are arranged by the PCC every 5 years with a suitably qualified person, often an architect. They will undertake an inspection of the church and churchyard and produce a report for the PCC highlighting any necessary maintenance works. The cost of this inspection and report is borne by the Diocese.
The Church Buildings Team understands that matters highlighted in the QI report could be challenging financially and practically for the PCC. The CBT and DAC are here to help and offer support & guidance.
To assist please see below our key documents, guidance and register of surveyors, or alternatively please contact the team.
The appointment of a Quinquennial Inspector is made by each PCC, and is always of an individual, not a firm. The appointment is for one inspection and report in the first place. It is important that a Quinquennial Inspector's training, accreditation, and experience in building conservation is commensurate with the complexity and significance of the church building(s) in question. Here is a list of surveyors for each area.
