In an event part funded by the Aldhelm Mission Fund, last month international children’s worship song writer Doug Horley visited Hampreston First School, Ferndown First School and St Mary’s Church, Ferndown, using science, bubbles, songs and interaction to explore the greatness of creation and God’s love for everyone.
The show was a mix of fun science demonstrations, songs and interaction. During his ‘Crazy Science Show’, Doug used science demonstrations, songs and interaction to highlight to the children what an amazing world God has made and how we should praise Him for it. He also shared how through the work of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the God who created everything can live within us, helping us to do more than we can imagine, and overflow with peace, love and kindness.
Revd Oli Fricker, Curate at St Mary's Ferndown and All Saints Hampreston says this: "I've never seen children so engaged and having so much fun in an assembly setting. It will definitely be something they remember positively for a long time and therefore will hopeful make them much more interested in engaging with future church events/services. It was great to welcome so many children and families to St Mary's, for many of whom, this was their first connection with us. We also had people coming along on the day without tickets because their children had really enjoyed Doug's visit to their school on the Friday and wanted to come and hear more."
At the end, Doug gave out booklets explaining the gospel and Revd Dom Meering (Rector at St Mary’s), also had an opportunity to speak and offered copies of 'Why Jesus?’ and inviting people to further events coming up throughout the year, including the Alpha Course.
