After a Mothers’ Union Re-imagining Conference in Liverpool last year, one of the three actions taken away by the Mothers’ Union Diocese of Salisbury was to improve the visibility and understanding of Mothers’ Union within the Church and to achieve a more effective functioning of Mothers’ Union as a recognised part of the shared mission of the local church.
Following this, a pilot project for engaging with clergy and churches has been developed at Mary Sumner House, to be launched this month, and Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Salisbury looks forward to being part of the pilot and engaging with communities across the diocese.
"At this point we need to guage what interest there is in a partnership where Mothers’ Union will provide particular support to clergy whilst the church gives its support to Mothers’ Union." Diosacan MU said.
As many of you will be aware Mothers’ Union is a World Wide organisation that supports family life in many different ways; through direct assistance, its campaigns, and many projects internationally and locally. Recently, the Most Revd and Right Hon, Stephen Cotterell, Archbishop of York said: “Where would the Anglican Communion be without the Mothers’ Union? Helping to transform communities through teaching, prayer and pastoral care.”
This Mothers Union pilot will run until September 2023 and will include, for clergy use, cost free examples of Mothers’ Union benefits and resources, including discounted teaching materials for parent and family groups, tailored services celebrating women and families, resources promoting aspects of church and family life as well as regular email updates and copies of Mothers’ Union bi-annual magazine.
Bishop Stephen said: "I commend this new initiative, from the Mothers’ Union, and which is to be trialled in our Diocese. Please give serious consideration as to whether engaging with the scheme would assist you, and your parishes, in the mission we all share to make Jesus known to all."
Individual clergy and Churches are invited to join this pilot project.
