For the first time ever, the town of Devizes in Wiltshire will be hosting the ‘Devizes Adventure’ - a community event set to bring the town together through a giant interactive Advent Calendar that starts on 1 December.
Each night throughout Advent, the Devizes Adventure Calendar will be set on the Little Green where a different festive and fun display will be revealed each day.
To cover the 24 days of Advent, 24 different groups including local schools, charities, churches, and pubs have got involved to each showcase their creativity in a one-off Christmas-themed exhibition each night.
This year's theme is ‘Christmas Stories,’ allowing each of the volunteer groups to put their own spin on the Christmas stories we all know and love. Each night will be a unique spectacle inspired by the theme, with some doors being opened to live music, storytelling, drama performances, and even creative workshops with things to make and take home.
If you do come along to the event, be sure to pick up a Devizes Adventure flyer and have it stamped each night you attend for the chance to be entered into a draw to win a special gift just in time for Christmas!
The idea – inspired by the hugely successful Brighton beach hut advent calendar – is the brainchild of a group of church-led volunteers.
One of the organisers of the event, the Revd Richard Saint, said: “It's intended to be a really fantastic, creative event - by the community for the community - and a lovely way to bring people together on the journey to Christmas. It’s definitely one for every age, and especially for children, who’ll love each new life-size Advent display and collecting the stamps.”
The Devizes Adventure will open its door from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm each night on the Little Green from 1 December until the doors finally close on the night of 24 December.
