The Diocese of Salisbury is delighted to welcome Samuel Bristow as Co-ordinator for PipeUp, overseeing the innovative scholarship scheme enabling organ education throughout the diocese.
Upon his appointment, Sam said: "It is a superb pleasure to be taking up this role and to be deepening my already strong relationship with the Diocese of Salisbury. As an organ student, I was extremely privileged with the teachers I had, and the opportunities presented to me; this is something I firmly believe should be extended to every young person who wants to take up the organ. I shall therefore work tirelessly to share my experience and enthusiasm for the instrument, and its repertoire, with everyone involved with PipeUp Salisbury and beyond, and to build on the superb legacy left to me by Chris Totney."
He was, until recently, the Assistant Organist at Salisbury Cathedral, where he frequently accompanied and conducted the Cathedral choirs, assisted in the training of the choristers and was accompanist to the Salisbury Cathedral Junior and Youth choirs. He has also held organ scholarships at Coventry, Birmingham and St Paul’s Cathedrals, where he was an integral part of the respective music departments. Samuel was trained at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he graduated with first class honours in 2019 and was a recipient of the John Campbell Keyboard Prize. His teachers were Daniel Moult and Henry Fairs.
Based in Salisbury and London, he is enjoying an increasingly busy portfolio career as an organist, conductor and teacher, he works as Organist of St Matthew's, Westminster and as Choral Leader at St Matthew's Primary School, delivering the choral curriculum on behalf of St Paul's Cathedral's OBE Music Outreach Programme.
