Bishop Karen has urged those of us who are able to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for the victims of the powerful earthquake which struck Syria and Turkey last week.
She said: “The plight of the people of Turkey and Syria amidst the destruction of the recent earthquake cannot but touch the hearts of all who view the images and hear the news reports. It is easy for us all to feel helpless, however with aid agencies now firmly on the ground overseeing the relief efforts, we can do something to begin to rebuild communities and to give all important hope.
"As we approach Ash Wednesday and are reminded of our own mortality, please pray for the people of Turkey and Syria and respond as you feel able. Every gift, no matter how small, can be used to make a difference, and giving generously to help others across the world is a sign of our ongoing love and care for those in need.”
The Diocese in Europe has also issued a video from the Anglican priest in Turkey, encouraging people to continue in prayer and support after the earthquake in this video.
