New Co-ordinator for PipeUp

The Diocese of Salisbury is delighted to welcome Samuel Bristow as Co-ordinator for PipeUp, overseeing the innovative scholarship scheme enabling organ education throughout the diocese. 


Ad clerum | Living in Love and Faith

The three bishops have sent a pastoral letter to all clergy in response to the Church of England Living in Love and Faith process. This can be found here. In addition to this, Bishop Stephen has shared a video sharing his thoughts. In it he commented “we need to be listening carefully to each other and allowing each other to flourish that's what Christ taught us when he told us to love one another”.

How we did it!  Bell restoration at Barford St Martin

Below is a list drawn up in 2021 of likely sources of grants for the restoration of our 6 church bells. The project included 2 bells being recast, all 6 tuned to perfection and rehung in new headstocks, bearings and wheels. The existing steel bell frame was repainted by the bell ringers and an additional cross beam installed beneath the bell frame, with associated stonework. The new ropes were not coverable by bell grants it seems. 


Sinbad the washed up teddy bear given new lease of life by a priest  

A teddy bear’s head found washed up on a beach in Cornwall has been repaired and the bear made whole in a labour of love by a Wiltshire priest. 


Clergy join up as Army Chaplains

Shiny shoes, immaculate dress and beaming smiles were just a small part of the commissioning of two Salisbury clergy members that took place on 12 January as they joined the ranks of the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department. The service was attended by Archdeacon Alan MBE, and the Bishop of Salisbury’s Liaison with the Armed Forces. 


Sudan's Day - celebrating 50 years of friendship

This year our diocese will be celebrating a momentous 50 years in partnership with the Episcopal Churches of Sudan and South Sudan. The diocese looks forwards to many more years of our combined friendship.  


Bishop Karen to be Living Churchyard Patron

The Dorset Wildlife Trust’s ‘Living Churchyard Project’ relaunched in January, and our diocese's own Bishop Karen has become the scheme's new Patron after the retirement of Bishop Nicholas.   


Training for Licensed Lay Ministry – busting the myths!

Karen Hutchinson, Lay Ministry Development Officer writes: When I’m out and about in my role I hear a lot of myths about LLM training. Sometimes these come from how things were in the past, sometimes they are projections of a person’s own experience of training at a difficult time. The sad thing is that some wildly inaccurate myths can prevent others from taking advantage of a fantastic training opportunity that Salisbury diocese has made available through Sarum College. 


New Year's Honours - Sarah Brewis, Head Teacher of Woodborough CofE School

Having been Head Teacher during a devastating fire that destroyed most of the school back in September of 2021, Sarah led her team through some extremely tough times whilst never losing focus on delivering the highest educational standards for every single one of her pupils.
