General Synod: Report from diocesan members

General Synod took place last week in Westminster. Among topics including the cost of living crisis, members approved proposals which would enable same-sex couples to come to church after a civil marriage or civil partnership to give thanks, dedicate their relationship to God and receive God’s blessing. 


Syria and Turkey Earthquake

Bishop Karen has urged those of us who are able to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for the victims of the powerful earthquake which struck Syria and Turkey last week.  


Bishop Stephen's letter following General Synod vote

The Bishop of Salisbury, Stephen Lake, has written to all clergy in the Diocese of Salisbury, following yesterday's vote in General Synod to approve prayers for God's blessing on same sex couples.


Bishop Stephen tours Wimborne Deanery

Last week, Bishop Stephen was welcomed to Wimborne Deanery for a tour. The first stop was  Wimborne St Giles CofE First School, where he shared in worship, talked to Spiderman, heard the story of Goldilocks and received letters from the pupils.  


Bishop Andrew visit to Pitton Primary School

Bishop Andrew visited Pitton CE Primary School as part of their Collective Worship. The whole school was able to attend the  assembly which focussed on the value of perseverance.

Diocesan Synod: Planning for the future of schools and parishes

Diocesan Synod gathered on Saturday to discuss the future vision of the diocese and a plan to guide it through the next decade, as well as hear personal responses to the draft proposals for blessing same sex couples. It also heard from the Diocesan Board of Education and a financial update. 


Call for prayer for South Sudan ahead of historic visit

The Archbishop of Canterbury has called for prayer ahead of an historic joint visit to South Sudan with Pope Francis and the Moderator of the Church of Scotland this week. 


Wiltshire Ride and Striders

The award for the winning Wiltshire Ride and Stride 2022 team was handed out this month to the group who made the biggest contribution to the event. 


24-hours of Prayer for Weymouth and Portland

On 20 January, at 6pm, Revd Tom Coopey, Vicar of St Mary's Church, stood before his congregation, saying: "God invites all of us, whoever we are, to connect with him in prayer."   This was the message for the next 24 hours as Christians from Weymouth and Portland took part in an entire days' worth of continuous prayer and contemplation.  On 20 January, at 6pm, Revd Tom Coopey, Vicar of St Mary's Church, stood before his congregation, saying: "God invites all of us, whoever we are, to connect with him in prayer." This was the message for the next 24 hours as Christians from Weymouth and Portland took part in an entire days' worth of continuous prayer and contemplation.
